We are starting a new monthly Craft Café where you can do your own projects at a social event with tea and cake.

The dates for these are Monday 14th July, Monday 11th August and Monday 15th September. All from 7.30-9.30pm. £3 which includes tea and cake. These will be at the hall at the back of Horsham Museum. The entrance to this is through the large black iron gates in Denne Road Car Park.

All are very welcome, for those who haven’t been before do come along, we are very friendly and don’t bite! Plenty of tea, coffee and cakes to go around and lots of experts in knitting, crochet etc who are always happy to offer advice etc. A description of the Craft Café can be found here.

Please message us if you’d like to come along and be involved. You can do this via the comments on this post or by emailing us at makehorsham@yahoo.co.uk

We are also going to be getting more involved with local community events offering workshops this way so watch this space for news on our first one.

The End of Make?

10 Feb

It is with great sadness that we have no choice but to cancel our next event on Monday 10th February and to close our doors for the time being. Huge thanks to those of you who have supported us over the last 2 years.

If you would like to go on a mailing list (I haven’t kept one before) to be notified if we do anything else please email me at makehorsham@yahoo.co.uk

Happy Birthday to us and a quick update

7 Feb

A happy 2nd birthday to us!

The start of a new year and the start of our 3rd year………………..

A big thank you to those who responded to my post about the future of Make. I have taken all the suggestions on board and implemented a lot of your ideas. The first change is that we will now be running our workshops and craft café on just one night a month instead of two. With a full time job (and some health issues) I just can’t do the regular 20 hours plus a week Make usually takes me any more.

We have resisted increasing the prices of our workshops and kept them the same even though the basic costs of hall hire, insurance etc has risen which is good news. To help we’ll introduce a Donations Pot on the counter for contributions for tea and cake. However I would like to stress that this is entirely optional so please don’t feel you have to contribute. We would really love your help with the Cake rota, making tea rota and putting up of leaflets. Please do get in touch if you can help.

We are also really trying to promote our Craft Café and this year we will be giving lots of free lessons whilst we craft various things for charity. This kicks off on Monday 10th February with free knitting help and we will be starting a project of knitting 6” squares to make into blankets for next winter for those who need them in our local community.

As you will have seen we have some great workshops coming up but again we need full workshops to meet our basic costs so we need your support. From an immediate point of view we have lots of spaces on workshops on Monday 10th February: Patchwork Quilt, Mosiac and Hidden Heart Cupcakes. Do take a look and share with your friends that might enjoy our friendly and relaxed workshops? If you are new to us this is the perfect time to get involved.

Please, please remember if you don’t use this community project and/or support it then we will have no option but to close, I cannot stress enough that you need to vote with bookings. You can contact us via email at makehorsham@yahoo.co.uk if you’d like to speak to us.

Many thanks for reading this.

Patchwork Quilt Workshop

27 Jan

Mondays 10th Feb, 17th March, 7th April, 19th May 2014

PATCHWORK QUILT WORKSHOP

with Victoria Coward  from Cuddle Monster Crafts

7.00 pm – 9.30pm (2 ½ hrs) at Brighton Road Baptist Church, Horsham

CMHOPE

This is a fantastic opportunity to learn how to machine a patchwork quilt with Victoria from Cuddle Monster Crafts. We are limiting the number of places available to only 8 to ensure everyone has plenty of assistance if needed.

The size of your finished quilt will be 40” square – perfect for keeping adult laps warm, as a baby’s/ child’s quilt or as a decorative throw for the home. The colour and theme will be chosen by you.

The workshop will run over four sessions and there will be a little homework to do in between each one. Equipment will be supplied during the workshops for you to use, however please note that you may need to finish work off at home and so having a craft ruler, rotary cutter and cutting mat will be very useful.

You will need to purchase the main fabric for the quilt top – Victoria will bring fabric to the first session for you to purchase if you would like or you are welcome to buy ahead of time and bring your own. A co-ordinating plain cotton for the back of the quilt and wadding for the middle will be provided. This alone makes the cost of this workshop superb value for money!

The first two sessions will cover:-

–                      Choosing fabric, colour and theme

–                      Choosing a design

–                      Sewing a sample piece of patchwork

–                      Cutting the main fabric for your design

–                      Sewing together your patchwork quilt top

The last two sessions will cover:-

–                      Basting your quilt

–                      Designing the machine quilting

–                      Quilting

–                      Making bias binding

–                      Using the bias binding to hand finish your quilt
